in-n-out knock off!

for those here in the state of Nebraska, you might not have ever heard of in-n-out.  so let me fill you it.

it might appear to be nothing more than a burger joint.  but the only thing they do is burgers and fries, and they do them both quite well.  yet even if you stop in when you are down in the southwest corner of the US, you are still missing out on a fantastic secrete.

animal style.

it's not listed on the menu, but it makes their decent little burger reach new hights.  this concoction of onions and cheese and special sause makes my mouth water every time i think about it.

and tonight, i've found a way to bring in-n-out to my kitchen table smack in the middle of the USA.  (and put it on a gluten free bun for me to enjoy!)

now i found the exact same recipe all over the web (exact to the point they all said 3 teaspoons relish, instead of 1 Tablespoon relish (cuz 3 t. = 1 T.)), so i'm really not sure who to give credit to.  so, i give it to no one and instead just post it here where you can enjoy it.  :)

Animal Style Sauce
1/2 c. mayo
2 T. french dressing
1 T. sweet pickle relish
1 t. white vinegar
3/4 t. sugar
1/8 t. salt

mix them all well.  note: the longer this sauce sits, the better it gets.  so feel free to make it the day before.

chop 1 onion (a sweet onion tastes best with the sause).  saute with a little oil until carmelized.

top your burger with onion, cheddar cheese, and sauce.  consume immediately and don't take a moment to consider how messy it is because it's totally worth looking like a mess to be able to enjoy it.

he never had a chance to enjoy it when we lived 2 minutes from an in-n-out, so this was his first experience.

hope you all enjoy it as much as we did!

p.s. when i told Isaac that i was making burgers animal style, he asked that his burger be a zebra.  :)

  1. This sounds really yummy and right up my alley!
