monday, monday...

sorry if that's now stuck in your head.  it's not uncommon for us to break out in song around here.  in fact, i tease my husband that he lives in a musical.  it's true.  it often feels like he has a song for everything, and if he doesn't... well he feels no embarrassment about making one up on the spot.  i love that man...

(isn't he such a cutie?!  i love him!)

anyway, back to the subject of monday.

i started a couple of new routines this first day of the work week.  yesterday, after spending an hour at the coffee shop with my Bible and notebook , i came home with a few resolutions/goals/habits-to-form and several verses to be themes for our family in this coming year.

most of these goals are focused around the Lord & wanting to incorporate more of His Word in our daily life.  a couple are simply to try and help my family, home & body to work better to help relive stress and and allow more opportunity for ministry to others.

~ to rise earlier ~

Psalm 3:5
"I lay down and slept; I awoke, for the Lord sustains me."  :)

i now will be waking at 6:30 every morning, and yes, that will include weekends.  this means that i will plan ahead and the night before i will need to lay out my clothes (with our bedroom being 3 feet from the boys, it helps to move out quickly into other parts of the house) and get to bed at a reasonable time.

~ to get active ~

this will be happening in a couple different ways.  first, through a planned work out in the mornings.  today it was the 30 day shred dvd.  as the weather gets nicer it might mean going for a walk or run (don't hold your breath on that last one, i'm not a runner!).  i will also work harder at getting outside with the boys and burning some energy.  this will be good for all of us & i already know that they will love it (one of their favorite things is going for a walk).

~ to make the Lord a very present part of my boys life ~

I have confessed my sin and turned my being and life over to the One living God and i know that i have been redeemed by His awesome work on the cross.  my boys have not yet given their hearts to the Lord.  while i cannot do anything by my own power to make this happen (except pray!), i can put great effort into making God a very real part of our lives.

i want to read the Bible to my boys everyday, especially the Proverbs.   i want to work harder and finding verses that specifically apply to things we are working on or talking about.

(we found these verses that fit so well with one of the cut & tape crafts Isaac did today.  so fun to have a fun visual for an amazing truth!)

and while i never make my boys pray, i now pray with them at the start of the day and throughout the day (Psalm 5:3).  i want to focus this year on praying more, bringing specific requests, praying for others, and praising the Lord as He answers us.  i'm very excited to teach them the joy of giving thanks as we see the Lord fulfilling our requests.

at breakfast, Isaac asked to pray for us all.  He had a long list of thanks that included the food, some friends, and bees who make honey for kids who like to eat peanut butter and honey sandwiches.  :)

these are just a few of the things that i want to work on more this year.  i have many, many more written in my notebook and even more in my head.  maybe as time goes on i will share some more.  the accountability would probably be good for me.
