(insert happy little smile here)

After 6 years of marriage, my husband got me a tree for the holiday.

some of you know how it's kind of a big deal for Nick to consent to a Christmas tree.  but i'm trying not to be to ecstatic.  :)

we decided that we don't have to do any of the things the world demands for the holidays, even those things that loved ones call you legalistic or boring for not partaking in.  instead, we carefully pick and chose the things that we like and want to involve our little family in.

and while some of these things might have sketchy backgrounds that would give some reasons for wanting to avoid them (like Christmas trees), we are developing our own reasons for partaking in them.

our reason for a tree?  we have decided that we will use this as a springboard to explain to our sons how closely the death of Christ (hung on a cross [tree]) is tied to the birth of Christ (why we celebrate Christmas).  Nick gave them the short version the other night as we finished hanging the last of the ornaments.  i know they don't get it yet, but i'm praying that this will sink in over the years.

and in case you are wondering, yes, they have already learned that some of the ornament can break.  so far, 1 down.  we'll see where we stand on the 25th.
